Bilbao
Bilbao, the art capital of Spain. And rightly so. I've always found the Guggenheim Museum interesting and there are art objects all over the city. Spain seems to have invested its steel reserves in art. Logically, I had to visit Bilbao one day. Thus, my pictures almost exclusively show the museum. From the front, from behind, from left and right and from above and last but not least from inside. In good and bad weather. But Bilbao has by far not only the museum to offer. Formerly a dirty and unattractive industrial city with steel works and shipyards, the city dedicated itself to art after the economic crisis and changed its appearance to a positive one. The streets are lined with town houses that show the flourishing economy of bygone days. The river Nervion flowing through the city shows a tidal range of about 3 m, which is impressive to look at. One does not expect a tide in a city. With the public transport, one is well connected, so that I also made some excursions in the surroundings.
Bilbao, die Kunsthauptstadt Spaniens. Zu Recht. Das Guggenheim Museum fand ich schon immer interessant und überall in der Stadt stehen
Kunstobjekte. Spanien scheint seine Stahlreserven in Kunst angelegt zu haben. Logisch, dass ich Bilbao eines Tages besuchen musste. So zeigen meine Bilder auch fast ausschließlich das Museum. Von
vorne, von hinten, von links und rechts und von oben und zu guter Letzt auch von innen. Bei gutem und bei schlechtem Wetter. Bilbao hat aber bei weitem nicht nur das Museum zu bieten. Ehemals
eine schmutzige und wenig attraktive Industriestadt mit Stahlwerken und Werften, hat sich die Stadt nach der Wirtschaftskrise der Kunst gewidmet und ihr Erscheinungsbild zum positiven geändert.
Die Straßen werden von Bürgerhäusern gesäumt, denen man die florierende Wirtschaft vergangener Tage ansieht. Der durch die Stadt fließende Fluß Nervion zeigt einen Tidenhub von ca. 3 m, was
imposant anzuschauen ist. Eine Tide erwartet man nicht in einer Stadt. Mit den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln ist man gut angebunden, so dass ich auch ein paar Ausflüge in die Umgebung unternommen
habe.

Gaztelugatxe is an island on the coast, not far from the town of Bakio. The rocky island is connected to the mainland by a stone bridge and there is a hermitage on the top. From Bakio you can walk to the island in one hour. A strenuous hike, as it is steep uphill and downhill, but the sight is worth the effort.
Gaztelugatxe ist eine Insel an der Küste, unweit des Ortes Bakio. Die felsige Insel ist durch eine Steinbrücke mit dem Festland verbunden,
auf dem Gipfel befindet sich eine Einsiedelei. Von Bakio aus läuft man in einer Stunde bis zur Insel. Eine anstrengende Wanderung, da es steil bergauf und bergab geht, der Anblick ist die Mühe
aber wert.
Plentzia
Plentzia is a seaside resort northeast of Bilbao. A small fishing village on a river, which was dry due to the low tide. It was entertaining to see how with rising tide the water penetrated from the sea into the river and the boats slowly began to swim again. Also here you can see, as everywhere on the coast, many surfers.
Plentzia ist ein Badeort nordöstlich von Bilbao. Ein kleines Fischerdorf an einem Fluss, der auf Grund der Ebbe trocken lag. Es war
unterhaltsam zu sehen, wie bei steigender Flut das Wasser vom Meer aus in den Fluss eindrang und die Boote langsam wieder zu schwimmen begannen. Auch hier sieht man, wie überall an der Küste,
viele Surfer.
getxo
Getxo lies upstream from Bilbao, at the mouth of the river Nervion. Getxo is a typical old Spanish city. Beautiful, but not spectacular. Getxo becomes interesting by the floating ferry, the Bay of Biscay bridge. Built in 1893, destroyed and rebuilt in 1941, it brings people and vehicles from one shore to the other every 10 minutes. Of course I drove to the other shore and back. It's fun! The bridge is already an impressive piece of technical history. From the hills of the old town, one can have beautiful views of the bridge.
Getxo liegt flussaufwärts von Bilbao, an der Flussmündung des Nervion. Getxo ist eine typische alte spanische Stadt. Schön, aber nicht
spektakulär. Interessant wird Getxo durch die Schwebefähre, die Biskaya-Brücke. Gebaut 1893, zerstört und wieder errichtet in 1941, bringt sie seitdem täglich im 10-Minutenrythmus Menschen und
Fahrzeuge von einem Ufer zum anderen. Natürlich fuhr ich zum anderen Ufer und zurück. Die Brücke ist schon ein beeindruckendes Stück technischer Geschichte. Von den Hügeln der Altstadt kann man
schöne Blicke auf die Brücke werfen.
